Wake Up Dead Man adds a delightfully dark twist to Knives Out

When director Rian Johnson introduced the new knife film on the third day of Tiff 2025, he called: "We go back to church." By this he said that Wake Up Dead Man, the latest mystery of Benoit Blanc, would return to the origins of the Whodunit and in particular the Gothic mood of Edgar Allan Poe. And now that I saw it, I have to say that Johnson pulled it out: The new film has a darker and spiritual feeling than its predecessors, and yet it is still clear what is twisted and strange.
