Uber and Momenta will test fully driverless cars in Germany

Uber and one of its many robotaxi partners, impulse, will test completely driverless cars in Germany next year. The news comes that Europe will remain behind the USA and China in the number of commercially operational robotaxi services. The companies say they will test level 4 in Munich from 2026. (Level 4 describes completely driverless vehicles without safety drive drivers who can work anywhere in a defined geographical area.) If everything goes according to plan in Munich, Uber could come to additional European cities over the years. Data is based in Shanghai, where it currently operates its own Robotaxi service. At the beginning of this year, Uber said that it would enable the company to add its robotaxis to its Ridehailing platform, although it would be cities outside the USA and China. Uber also said that the robot taxis of impulse would contain safety monitors behind the steering wheel at the start before it finally switched to completely driverless vehicles. Impulse, which was financed by China's state Saic engine, GM, Toyota, Mercedes-Benz and Bosch, currently provides a number of car manufacturers, including Mercedes and BMW. Although it is currently behind the USA and China, Europe begins to see more robotaxi measures that signal that the locks could soon be open. In addition to Uber and at the moment Chinas Baidu and Lyft are planning to bring driverless taxis to Great Britain and Germany in 2026. Volkswagen has also been testing autonomous vehicles in Germany for several years and recently said it would have its own robotaxi service with - they guessed it in Los Angeles in 2026.
